Hypertension
Starkova,
Marova, Lemesheva, Goncharova, Atamanova and Sedykh, Problemy Endokrinologii
(1972), 2090 reported PHT decreased or
normalized blood pressure in fifteen hypertensive patients with Cushing’s
syndrome.

De
La Torre, Murgia-Suarez and Aldrete, Clinical Therapeutics
(1980),1797 compared PHT with conventional
therapy in two groups of forty mildly hypertensive patients and found
PHT useful in the reduction of both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
The authors also found PHT more effective in relieving symptoms such as
anxiety, headaches, tinnitus, palpitations, chest pain, and dyspnea than
the conventional therapy. The authors suggest that PHT provides an alternative
antihypertensive therapy, simple compared with most conventional therapies,
and with fewer side effects.

Aldrete
and Frantovic, Archives of Surgery (1980),1717
studied changes of arterial blood pressure and heart rate
occurring during anesthesia and in the immediate post-operative period
in three groups (30 patients each) of hypertensive patients. One group
was untreated. A second group received 100 mg of PHT, and the third 200
mg of PHT, the evening before and the morning of surgery. The administration
of 200 mg the evening before and on the morning of surgery provided significantly
improved hemodynamic stability during surgery.

studied the effects of PHT, pyrroxan and placebo in preventing
hypertensive crises in thirty-five patients. In the PHT group (ten patients)
there were no crises in five and in three a reduction of frequency and
severity of crises was noted.

Bechtereva,

of Clinical Investigation (1984),2316 discussed
the use of PHT in treating 120 patients with hypothalamic syndrome. With
PHT, blood pressure and body temperature were normalized. In addition
there was marked improvement in symptoms such as headache, irritability
and feelings of fear. Sleep was also improved.
